Starting Assignment 2 EDN113

For Assignment 2: Digital Citizenship I have to research information safe, responsible and ethical use of the web and present it on my website.  I also have to create a digital poster on a topic under one of these headings.  To make it easier there is an example website that I have used as a guide of what to expect the assessors expect.

It is a bit different for me to be doing a assessment where there is no word count and no hard copy.  I think that it is good that I can use a range of ways of presenting the info such as videos and photos and many people will be able to access and view the info that I have researched. I created a djigo account, which i thought would be beneficial in my research for the assignment.

I began by researching different issues under safe use of the web such as cyber bullying and cyber stalking then started putting some of the info onto my website.  Through this process I found out how to edit the site layout:-)

Week 3 EDN113

This week in the lecture at Uni I learnt about cyber bullying and how hard it is to know that it is occurring in school.  Also I learnt about self cyber bullying where teenagers put mean comments or questions to themselves online anonymously.  I know that people self harm in real life in private but it is strange to think that a similar occurrence occurs online anonymously.  The reason they do this just like in self harm is that they are reaching out for help.  In some cases people have committed suicide who have bullied them self online.

I read some valuable information on researching found on the 'Technology Toolbox For Educators' that will help me with Assignments.  There was information on Google searching which is something that I do every day but it is good to find a way to do it quickly and concisely to find relevant information that I need.

Until next post:-)

Week 1/2 EDN113: Living and Learning with Technology

Week 2 Lecture and Reading
In this weeks Lecture I learnt about the elements of Authentic learning which is a key part of the unit and important in becoming a teacher. I enjoyed watching a segment from the Movie "School of Rock" that was used to demonstrate that the teacher in the movie Dewey Finn uses authentic learning to teach the children rock and roll.

I had previously seen the movie and now I was seeing it from an educational perspective. I could see that different authentic learning techniques were used such as collaboration, brainstorming, coaching, watching videos and reflecting on their learning were used to enable them to learn about Rock and Roll.  This helped me to know how I could ensure authentic learning techniques were used in the classroom.

I also learnt about what influences the type of teacher that I will become.  Some of the influences were: strong personal beliefs, cultural factors and my own experiences as a student.  It made me think about how the great teachers I had in Primary School influenced me to want to become a Primary School Teacher.  I hope that one day I can be as good a teacher as they were to me and inspire young children to learn.

I read Chapter One from the textbook "Meaningful Learning with technology" which allowed me to learn a bit more about meaningful learning and how technology can be used to support meaningful learning.    I think that technology needs to be used the right way by people so that they get the most out of it.

My first website and blog

Creating my first website and blog

Yay!  I have created my very own website and this is the beginnings of  my own blog established for my Murdoch University unit EDN113: Living and Learning with Technology to demonstrate my learning and participation in the unit.  I did not know what to expect in creating this.  I created the website using Google sites with my already created Google account. I used the website example found on the resources for the assessment as a guide.  I followed the prompts on the Google site and up popped the website. It was not as hard as I thought it would be.  However I have had some previous experience with technology such as helping to update the website for my Primary School when I was in Year Seven.   It is a bit daunting to think that all this information will be put on the world wide web for all to see.

I have read some information on websites found on Technology Toolbox for Educators and in the textbook 'Meaningful Learning with Technology' on the benefits of blogging and what to include in a blog which have assisted me in gaining some background knowledge before embarking on this learning journey.

I am in the Generation that was brought up with technology and used it to assist me in my schooling so using various technologies is not as hard for me as it is for others.  But I only use technology when I need to such as for typing documents, making slideshows, emails and editing photos.

I see this as a great opportunity to share my learning of this unit and my development of new skills with my peers and lecturers and compare with my peers.

Until next post:-)
